Typhoon HIL
Typhoon HIL
Organisation Introduction
Typhoon HIL is a market and technology leader in the rapidly growing field of ultra-high-fidelity controller-Hardware-in-the-Loop (C-HIL) simulation for power electronics, e-Mobility, and grid modernization. In the simplest terms, this means we developed a hardware and software solution that runs real-time digital simulations that can interact with a physical control prototype, in much the same way that a flight simulator allows pilots to train for different situations using the physical controls from the cockpit of the aircraft. This approach helps universities and companies design, engineer, test, and automate new technologies to accelerate the speed at which new innovations move from the lab to the market. As our company grows, we remain committed to maintaining the exceptional service and tailored approach that companies have come to count on.
Why InnoBMS?
Quite simply, the InnoBMS project is a well-targeted, collaborative project that comes at the perfect time. Typhoon HIL recently launched its BMS testing solution featuring Battery Cell emulators that eliminate the need to use physical batteries for BMS development tests. This means that critical faults, communication delays, and errors can now all be tested in the development stage without occupying busy full-power testing labs. This concept has the potential to greatly accelerate the BMS development process and reduce the time to market for new BMS safety and optimization updates.
Through participating in InnoBMS, Typhoon HIL will be able to further develop, iterate, and validate this solution directly with the input of key industrial and academic partners. In particular, these test cases will be validated using a testbed capable of representing batteries with voltages up to 1000 V. The experienced gained by interfacing this testbed with the novel wireless CMB control card will open up new methods and examples for real-time testing of BMS solutions. We are very excited to have the opportunity to work with such a stellar consortium and look forward to their inputs as we collaborate around validating and deploying the InnoBMS solution.
What in InnoBMS?
Typhoon HIL is responsible for leading the testing, validation and demonstration activities, with a focus on performing C-HIL tests of the wireless BMS control card for passenger (400 V) and fleet vehicles (up to 1000 V) ahead of full-stack testing. This includes:
- Cell-level emulation of the battery system
- Interfacing of the wireless BMS hardware with real-time test equipment
- ISO 15118 compatible EV charging infrastructure emulation
- Integration with VUB’s cloud-based Open vehicle Powertrain Platform to simulate real driving conditions
“InnoBMS’s strong, industry-focused consortium, powered by top of the line academic and research institutions, are uniquely positioned to drive the next generation of BMS technology to market.”
